Dr. L. P. Lewis was born in Ruston, Louisiana where he spent most of his childhood. He received his undergraduate degree (BA) from San Francisco State University, San Francisco, CA. He earned his Master of Divinity Degree from American Baptist Seminary of the West, Berkeley, CA. Dr. Lewis received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary, San Anselmo, CA.

Prior to entering into the ministry, Dr. Lewis was employed as a Youth and Student vocational Counselor for the California State Employment Service; Director of a Model Cities Agency in San Francisco; Regional Housing Specialist for the US Department of Justice (Community Relation Service); Management positions with HUD/FHA such as office manager, Assistant Area Manager and Director of Housing Management Division.

Dr. Lewis served as Executive Assistant to the Pastor & Co-Pastor at Allen Temple Baptist Church, Oakland, CA; served as Interim Pastor for two years at Canaan Christian Covenant Baptist Church and 7 years as Interim Pastor of Bethany Baptist Church both in Oakland, CA.

Currently, Dr. Lewis is Co-Director of the Allen Temple Minister-In -Training program and is an instructor at the Allen Temple Leadership Institute..

Dr. Lewis is married to Mrs. Mary Ann Lewis. They have 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
